Back in the 1990’s when 45rpm records ruled, Beenie Man was known as the King of the Dancehall. But these days once an artist has enough hit songs to warrant a stage show of more than five minutes (in Jamaica it isn’t unusual for new acts to be on and off the stage in thirty seconds…just enough time to sing to the crowd for a big reaction and run off stage). So, it is good to see a legend back in the studio making new music when he could easily take things easy and tour for the foreseeable future on the material that has brought him so much success. And of course Beenie doesn’t disappoint. I’m sure people will be singing this one for years to come, and I love the way that it subtly nods to his past.
“Shoot Out” is definitely worth the listen.
