squid-philgood-500-PXL-WEBDeep house, which is morphing into “Garage”territory, is the big trend for House music this year but for many last year’s trend of “Tech House” is still going strong. How strong? Well over the past few months I’ve watched as a potential record deal for The 3% (JayBizz LeFresh and I) fell apart as the label switched over to a more “Tech” sound. Crackling Claps the label that released my track “Minnie Ninnie” almost didn’t put it out because they were shifting towards a “Tech” sound and now Spins and Needles (a label I have dealings with) are putting out their first “Tech House” release with Granja’s Squid EP.  Granja is probably better known as Montreal’s DJ Philgood who got his start working at Record stores around Montreal back in ’92 before earning residencies in the city’s legendary after-hours scene. Eventually, Granja toured the world and shared stages with DJs like Laurent Garnier,  Richie Hawtin, DJ Rush, Sven Vath, Green Velvet, Felix da Housecat, John Aquaviva etc.. Now making his return to music production under the new moniker “Granja”; the Squid EP masterfully travels the “Deeper” side of Tech house, touching on Techno’s love affair with the 303 with “Tentacle”, and modern Techno’s experimental side with “Mantle”. Basically if you are a fan of Techno or “Tech House” this is definitely a well executed collection of tracks that you need to check out

Granja’s Squid EP is available from Spins & Needles
