I know people who honestly think the “Major Labels” still call all the shots now, despite the fact that Labels like Stones Throw have managed to find a way to get artists like Aloe Blacc on to National Radio. The problem isn’t the labels, the real problem are the centrally programmed radio stations (and media still lead by an aging demographic). These days a lot of labels, even the big ones, are putting out some of the most interesting, ground breaking music I’ve heard in years. The line between main-stream and underground gets blurred more everyday. It is a fun time to be critiquing music….oh and Kelis (her Milkshake brought all the boys to the yard) is now on Ninjatune.
