It is always inspiring to see an artist hit their stride. Remember my review on Popcaan? But it is doubly fun when the artist in question is A veteran who has been a force for decades, but his attempts at staying at the forefront of his genre had fallen flat of late. Enter Macka B; whose family played a large roll in the popularization of Reggae music in the UK. Macka himself has played an important role with the Airwa sound system (headed by the Dub music legend “Mad Professor) and in the process has released 14 studio albums. Being as prolific as he has been over the years it is understandable that some of his releases of recent years have fallen on deaf ears. But this time he has struck gold with his latest single and the album of the same name “Never Played a 45”. You know something is special when Reggae DJ’s on your Facebook feed are bragging about already playing the 45 vinyl record before they are serviced from Macka’s label.
I don’t make predictions often but expect this tune and the others on this album to stick around for a while, preceding a revival in Macka’s career throughout the Reggae community.
